Things I'll miss

Well, here it is, 2 days until we move and I haven't even had the time to be sad.  Certain things always bring it up, like when I'm saying goodbye to people but otherwise all the packing, loading, cleaning, and seeing friends and family has taken every minute I have.  That's a good thing.  I'm very excited for this new phase/adventure but will miss many things.  Here are some things I've compiled, mostly in my head, so it may not be complete.  None of this counts my families and friends.  :-)

Walking my kids to and from school
Talks with my kids while walking to or from school
The smell of traditional Indian food being cooked in the garages of cute little East Indian Moms and Grandmas.
REAL Mexican food cooked for me by my sweet Mexican neighbor.
Knowing how to get where I need to go! (That's my big one.  I get lost ALL the time even though I've lived here most of my life....Nate is buying me a GPS.)
All the little kids saying hello to Natalie and Alyssa's Mom, and knowing their parents....where they came from....their past...etc.
Who the good teachers in the school are.
The smell of peaches in the summer driving down the road.
Rice fields.
The Buttes.
Rain in the winter.
My Gym.
My awesome, fantastic, super, aerobics instructors and trainers at my gym.
The Sikh Parade and fireworks from my backyard weekend.
Knowing every kid in primary.
Working in Primary....I have a sneaking suspicion I'll be in Relief Society.
My dog.
My cats.
My chicken ladies.
Fresh eggs.
Swimming at my Grandparents in the Summer.
Citrus trees.
Family dinners with extended family.
watching my kids play with their cousins/grandparents/aunts& uncles.
Being in my comfort zone.
Family birthday parties.
Being able to ride our bikes to Grandparents houses.
The walnut orchard in our backyard.
My garden.
My fruit trees.
Winco.
New Earth Market.

The list could go on for quite a while.  These are just some.  I know we will have a great time in Virginia, but I will miss home.

Ode to a Lemon Pound Cake

I've never given much thought to exactly how many tools are involved in making my Grandmother's lemon pound cake recipe.  It's not too complex but this morning as I was trying to make this cake I realized....it's not the kinda cake you make when you are moving.  You have to beat egg whites, whip sugar and shortening or butter...fold in egg whites....I have my mixer but absolutely no tools.  Had my hand mixer but no beaters.....couldn't whip my egg whites couldn't measure my flour, sugar, salt, etc.   Arggg....moving is so frustrating!  And we have to live like this for another week!  I did get that cake made though, and it's going to be tasty!!!  ;-)

June

June is going to be a very busy month....Ethan and Shayla's birthday party was Saturday.  Thanks to my amazingly talented sis-in-law Amber for putting on the best birthday party EVER!  Swimming, pinatas, corn on the cob, cake, hot dogs, hamburgers, watermelon, and family and friends.  I could not have asked for a better time with many of my favorite people!  Thanks Amber!  I'll try to post the pictures later.

June is also my moms birthday, my aunts birthday, my  brother-in-laws birthday, Father's day, and our moving day all before mid-June!  Thanks for putting up with my constant posting about moving and such!  This blog has served as my journal as well as keeping people posted about what has been going on with our family!

14 days............
